A Few Good Things with Chris Young

2025

March Edition

Welcome to the March 2025 edition of A Few Good Things.

Last month we asked:

What would it look like for your business to start with the “why?” To see itself as an extension and builder of God’s Kingdom?

At The Good Place Institute, we believe Kingdom success requires going deeper and more integrated and holistic in its approach, which is much more purposeful, meaningful, and fulfilling to all who encounter the organization than the world’s definition of success.

So, what does success look like in God’s economy? What does God care about when it comes to work, business, and organizational life?

A Good Place organization defines success based on three foundational aims:

1. People: Helping Individuals Flourish

In a Good Place organization, we desire to provide opportunities and encouragement for people to grow to their full potential professionally and personally.

In God’s economy, people come first. Work was designed as a gift and a means of grace —a place where individuals grow, contribute, and thrive. A Kingdom-minded organization values:

  • Honor, dignity, and respect for every person.
  • Training, education, and personal development.
  • A culture where employees find purpose, meaning, and fulfillment

When people flourish, organizations do too. A Good Place prioritizes the well-being of its people, knowing that success isn’t just measured in productivity, but in growth and fulfillment.

2. Communities: Strengthening the Places We Work and Live

A Good Place isn’t just good for its employees, it transforms the world around it. Businesses have the power to build up the communities they operate in. Good Place organizations:

  • Serve as a force for good in their communities.
  • Use their products and services to promote creation thriving and human flourishing.
  • Invest in relationships, not just transactions—with customers, suppliers, and local partners.

Organizations aligned with God’s economy don’t just extract value—they multiply it, creating stronger, healthier communities.

3. Stewardship: Being Economically Regenerative

Success in God’s economy isn’t about hoarding wealth—it’s about multiplying resources for greater good. A Good Place is economically regenerative, meaning it:

  • Reinvests in people, creating lasting impact beyond profit.
  • Uses surplus to expand opportunities for future flourishing.
  • Builds sustainable growth, ensuring long-term organizational health.

A Kingdom-minded business isn’t just profitable, it’s purpose-driven, resource-multiplying, and deeply impactful.

Leadership is stewardship and serving. Let’s do it faithfully together.

Leadership is a weighty calling. It is both a privilege and a responsibility—to steward well what God has entrusted to us, to build in alignment with His design, and to seek flourishing not only for ourselves but for those we lead.

That’s why we’ve created GPI Leadership Cohorts—a space where Kingdom-minded leaders like you gather to grow, sharpen one another, and build organizations that reflect God’s heart for people, communities, and business.

Heaven in Business – John Harris attended February 26 – March1

The Good Place Institute was represented at the annual Heaven in Business conference in Atlanta at the end of February.  This event focused on the importance of God’s presence in our work and leadership, as well as the opportunities to work with each other to transform communities and the marketplace.  Andy and Janine Mason, long-time ministers to business leaders were the hosts of the event.  This conference included a handful of speakers, including best-selling author and speaker, John Bevere, who provided highly impactful insights, advice, and a call to action for those who were there.  Significant business projects were also presented, including a real estate development opportunity in Brazil for over $100 million in raised capital.

John Harris, our Client Development representative, is now in active collaboration with the Brazil real estate project leaders as well as others.  GP’s involvement is not only for the purpose of teaching and implementing the Good Place Operating System in their organizations, but also to provide key networking conversations so that their projects will gain more support and resources.  Because of our Charter commitment for Good Place Communities here and around the world, we’re grateful and honored to be a part of a bright future for these organizations.

Business for the Common Good – March 7 event - John Harris highlight

The Good Place Institute was represented at the 2025 Business for the Common Good Conference, hosted by the Denver Institute for Faith & Work.  With over 400 business and organization leaders in attendance, including many "C-level" executives from all kinds of industries, this event included many of the best and brightest leaders in the Denver metro area in the audience.  This event's theme was "wisdom," which Uli Chi, one of the nation's leadership experts, and Mike Sharrow, C12's CEO, presented powerful insights into gaining and implementing God's wisdom in our work in the marketplace.   As Good Place Institute increases its visibility and partnership with the Denver Institute, this event is the starting point of a flourishing relationship with them.

Within one of the breakout sessions, we discovered one of the greatest needs which local leaders expressed the need for help was for an operating system that promotes flourishing of employees and organizations.  Of course, we know the solution to that need: the Good Place Operating System!  In response, John Harris is actively collaborating with key leaders at the Denver Institute, including two of the panel members in that breakout session, to introduce and implement our resources and solutions to address that need.

Would Jesus Have Been a Good Accountant?

Chris recently joined How Leaders Think with Kenny Lange to unpack a big question:

Is your business sprinkling Christianity on top or truly Kingdom-driven?

Many faith-driven leaders are generous givers but still run their businesses using secular success metrics. They may incorporate Christian branding or charitable giving but stop short of holistically integrating Kingdom characteristics into every aspect of their organization.

In this episode, Chris explores how businesses can move to holistic Kingdom integration creating workplaces where people truly flourish, the organization thrives, communities prosper, and the world becomes a better place.

He also discusses:
✔ Why work is a means of grace, not just a paycheck???
✔ The shift from ownership to stewardship in business
✔ How to create a discipleship-driven workplace culture

After listening, we’d love to hear from you: What’s one way you integrate faith into your business?

Absolutely! The workshop about Business as a Christian was EXCEPTIONAL. 10/10 and I am recommending Chris Young's book to every Christian I know. It has absolutely encouraged me to leave my environment, employees, and so much more in a better place than I found them - and gave me so much practical advice on how to influence others as a Christian! That workshop alone over everything else is why I am coming back to jubilee next year." Giving gratitude to God for how he spoke through you! (Attendee at recent workshop)
