Merry Christmas! Welcome to the December edition of A Few Good Things with Chris Young! This month, I have four things that I wanted to pass on to you that I think you’ll find valuable. Thank you for reading and being a part of The Good Place Institute community.

One of my favorite Scripture passages during Christmas comes from the book of Isaiah. In chapter nine, it says:
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
I love the last line that calls Jesus the Prince of Peace, translated as Prince of Shalom in Hebrew. The word shalom is packed with meaning. It can mean peace, wholeness, completeness, and harmony—a harmonious relationship with God, people, and creation (in our context of work and organizational life). Jesus is the Prince of Shalom and secures wholeness, completeness, and harmony for us by removing all peace-disturbing factors.
Shalom is the primary characteristic of what people have in Good Places, whether in the Garden of Eden, the Promised Land, the Church, God’s Kingdom on earth now, or the future new Jerusalem. It is a wholeness that can be experienced in our work context as we build and steward Good Place organizations pursuing a Biblical definition of organizational success.
We hope you experience shalom this season—in your work, as you build and steward an organization, gather with friends and family, and reflect on and celebrate the Prince of Shalom.
